Sew be it.
In early 2014,
Gall Sewing and Vacuum moved from it's 10-year-location to a larger, adjacent storefront in Lansing's Frandor shopping center. It's a move, says store leadership, that provides more retail space and more room for teaching the seasoned or novice sewer.
"We're getting more traffic into the store," says Jason Novak, Lansing store manager and company vice president. "Quilting and embroidery have carried the industry, but TV shows like
Project Runway have made younger people excited about getting into the art of sewing."
The 3,000-square foot store at 428 Frandor will feature a separate room for classes on everything from sewing garments to alterations, and from quilting to home sewing.
An expanded retail area will allow customers to browse makes and models of sewing machines including Janome, Elna, Brother, Singer, Babylock and more. Customers, too, can try out vacuums with names like Miele, Hoover, Eureka, Dyson and Lindhaus, as well as a new line of Maytags. And the DIY enthusiast will enjoy checking out the ScanNCut—a versatile cutting machine that can create cutting designs from scanned images, photos or hand-drawn sketches.
"Pairing sewing machines with vacuums is something that's done around the country," says Novak. "Our trained technicians can service both since the mechanics cross over between the two fields."
Gall's Lansing location currently employs seven full- and part-time employees, and may add one or two more by the end of the year. Gall Sewing and Vacuum Center opened in Grand Rapids in 1946 and grown to be one of the premier dealers in sewing machines and vacuums in the U.S. with four Michigan locations.
